This booklet provides an overview of depression. It discusses the common symptoms of depression and how its treated, which can include psychotherapy (talk therapy) or medication. It explains what you should do if you experience side effects or if you dont feel better. It includes a list of medications approved by the FDA for treatment of unipolar depression and additional medications that may be used to treat unipolar depression or depression in bipolar disorder. In addition, it discusses other treatments, such as electroconvulsive therapy (ECT), transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS), and vagus nerve stimulation (VNS).
